Thanksgiving was a couple weeks ago and I realized I have a lot of thanking to do in this post.
[First of all, I'd like to extend a long overdue thanks to LōBrow Magazine for the inclusion of "Pollenating" in their debut issue alongside some pretty entertaining prose and striking visual art. The embed of "Pollenating" is three entries up from the bottom and at the time of this post the first issue is still the current issue.] Update: LōBrow Magazine has since been washed away into the web ether and will be missed. (2/11/10)
Since my last update two last minute screening opportunities popped up:
--1) Double Vision - a program of short, dual-channel video work shown in conjunction with the exhibition "Between History and Memory" at the Herron School of Art and Design. Special thanks to Sabrina of Jeff and Sabrina Williams for forwarding me the call for entries just in time for me to have "Pollenating II" ready to submit.
--2) Southern Shorts Film Festival - A Festival put on by Art on the Square in Athens, AL. They requested a screening copy of "Pollenating" for consideration in their program and I sent them a copy of "Elements of Time" as well which received a special distinction in animation.
Community arts organizations at all levels (small town, large metropolitan, regional,...) such as the previously mentioned Art on the Square have been instrumental in the feasability of my career as an artist in 2009. The Southern Arts Federation's - Short Circuit Traveling Film Festival actually pays stipends to participating filmmakers. At this stage in my career every bit helps. In a huge step forward in appreciation and support for emerging video artists in the United States the Houston Arts Alliance put out a call to artists back in the summer for inclusion in the "George R. Brown Convention Center Video Art Collection" offering to license selected works for $3500 a piece. So lastly, I'd like to give a sincere thanks to organizations such as these and hope that they can continue to support artists such as myself well into the future.

Summer always has its distractions... After a spring of developing two or three concepts to about 70 percent, the jasmine in the landscaping around my neighborhood came into full bloom sometime in early May. I decided to drop everything I was working on so as not to risk having to wait another year to complete a concept I had floating around in my head involving these 'star jasmine' blossoms. The fact that I had just been given access to the recently recorded works of Otters Making Music, specifically the track "Elements of Time," helped to further cement my decision. Four and a half months later, I am ready to put one of my only completed works in roughly over a year out into the world. Watch it here.

Here's hoping that I'll start updating my site more often than once every two months. Pollenating will have its UK premier May 22 as part of "Visions in the Nunnery." The film will be on display as part of this gallery exhibition through May 31.
Pollenating has finally come full circle in that it has been selected to screen in the Gallery part of the program at this year's Anima Mundi. in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (where it all started at the second installment of FIAE in '07). Pollenating will be in the company of works like Drux Flux and Max Hattler's Aanaatt in it's section of this prestigious festival.
3/23/09 - The Silverfish Closet website has officially launched. Keep checking back for new content and updates.
2/18/09 - 'Pollenating' has been invited to screen at ANIMAC '09 in Catalonia. If you are in the region Feb. 23 through Mar. 1 stop by and check the program for showtimes.
